Default Granny Flat Building

Hey guys,

I am just trying to scope out how I could build a granny flat out the back of a house.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

The plan is for a very low cost design (build a shed then insulate the inside) the shed will be approx 6mx4.5m with a concrete pad and building in the city of swan.

We were going to build ourselves as I do have mates in different trades to do electrical and plumbing but have been informed that we are required to have a builder do the job.

We will have to do it by the book as the neighbours dob us into the council for anything they can.

If anyone knows that would be great.

Cheers,
Damien

Once you get the council involved you will find nothing is cheap and easy.
We had one built when the builder built our house which is much easier.
Check with your council is the first place I would look.

Thanks Dave,

We have been to council with plans for a second hand shed but have been told that we are not allowed to construct without a builder doing the job :/

I guess I am looking for a way around that :/

what is your intended budget?

buying a shed and converting it may seem the easiest, it sometimes can be but for the space to me inhabitable there are rules. you may need an engineer, you may need a building surveyor.
