I haven't considered one as yet, the biggest shark I've seen so far was a 12" port Jackson.

I have heard that they are good for zapping your buddies however..... haha.

Dive update:
Dove The Coombe on Monday night - found a new (for me) wreck in 15.6M - that's 4 that I now know about. Lot's of Blue Manna's in berry at the mo & a few good prawns about the place.

In all the times I've worn one I've never been eaten by a shark, just like in all the times I've not worn one I've never been eaten by a shark, and the times not wearing one greatly outnumbers the times I've worn one. As Ross said they give quite the shock to people around you if you're not careful, I've had a sharkshield whip go along the length of my shoulders and it was a fucking horrible experience at depth.

Something else to take into consideration is the likelihood of being taken by a shark when diving for recreational purposes. There have been a number of scuba divers attacked by sharks in the past, but nearly all of those cases have been abalone divers, or pearl divers, there was the guy with the bag of catch on his weight belt, etc.

To me the cost of purchasing one, and the pain of wearing one around your ankle, and the entanglement hazard no less, does not outweigh my belief that I am for the most part safe from sharks at depth, but if it's my time to go, then so be it.

A bit of Video from yesterday's double bubble with Western Blue Dive Charters.

We dove 'The Apartments' and Graham's Grotto.

No wind, No swell - great dive!

Took a novice out tonight on his first night dive at Ammo Jetty, the afternoon storm definitely scared off 2 planned dives parties that I knew of but by the time we dropped in at 18:55 the conditions were almost perfect with just a light drizzle but less divers in the water was better for us. Viz wasn't perfect but no means was it poor and plenty to see but unfortunately saw a dead shark towards the end of the jetty and it was clear that a human had a big part to play in its demise. This forum is not for debating whether we kill them or not but its disappointing to see such an animal killed this way.
