Agreed, no point having 6 billion kw at the wheels if you come out of the last right on wanners and are sideways smelting rubber.

All I'm suggesting is that Drags are a completely different thing to Circuit. Sheer power is useless if it is not useable, delayed by lag and cannot get to the wheels well enough on the circuit. You need immediate and useable power and beefy torque to pull you out of the corners, even if it is a larger more undulating track than MC.

Some examples:
My friend with a ~400Hp Skyline GTS-t (Big laggy T04E with gate etc) running R-rubber and fairly decent suspension setup could only manage a 64sec run on Wanneroo long track... that same day I was driving my RS with street tyres, 250,000km+ on the old tired engine and no extra power mods aside from Exhaust/ intake and was pulling consistant 62's...

While instructing at a John Bowe day last year, a driver of a 500kw FPV with lowered suspension and stock brakes was only managing similar times of 64's (by memory). However I use this example because the real issue was the excessive power (Yes, you can have too much!) This thing browned everyone's undies because it was intially laggy and once coming on boost was simply annoying to control and keep on the track! Even in 3rd, 4th gear it was frying tyres out of Kolbe corner!!
Yes, Gran Tourismo racecars put out that kind of power... but they also have a purpose built chassis, drivetrain and braking system to utilise this.

More food for thought if you are aiming at a circuit car...?

That comment was just a dig at clint.....

Yeah i understand i will have to change things, as i said its initally built for the drags, once i get my time ill see how it goes on the circuit then see what is needed to be changed..

The difference with rear wheel drive is that excessive power can seriously be detrimental, however a awd car can put down alot more power for the obvious reasons..

As for racing as a circuit car, i want to be able to learn how to drive not saying that im a jet driver but far from it.. I will not be taking the car to its limits UNTIL i learn more about it, and talk to others also.. real life driving experience is whats needed...

but hey who knows how responsive its going to be until its actually running, it may suprise few ppl or do exactly what the majority are thinking..

Ha ha power is everything just drive around the problems that lag causes....................
Also stop comparing your rs vs 2.8 tonne of Ford or a Nissan cos those Beetle engine things would kick your ass with 60bhp ha ha ....(No facts in the times those little shitters do)
stock rex 200hp atw vs stock rex (except engine mods)500hp atw Who would win around wanners THINK ABOUT IT....common sense

Yeh but go on a "drifting forum" and they'll probably say traction is boring and that sideways is the only way, wont they?

Would be great to have the best of both worlds though

1. Re-read my post- I didn't compare the RS to the Ford.
2. Any race engineer will tell you that a stock production car has it's limits in terms of how much power the chassis is setup to handle and stock braking system can manage and so on etc. This is notable even when comparing the small jump in power between WRX and WRX STi models and the further attention to detail placed on improving chassis rigidity, tweaking suspension and brakes etc by engineers at Fuji Heavy Industries.

Realise that the Ford mentioned earlier was so inadequately set up in the braking department alone (ie- STOCK brakes), that it became unpredictable as to whether the brakes would even work appropriately before each corner... so much so that down the main straight Barry, the instructor on the day in that car, had to make him brake at the finish line in order to take CAT corner safely!!

So I'll say it again, unless you own a GT series racecar that is dedicated to significant increases... winding up a stock car to 300Hp+ over the usual won't get you anywhere faster! (Mild to Moderate increases is another story).

Stock FPV running 62's with instructor driving...
500kw FPV on steroids running 64's with instructor driving...

Proof enough... now just go do some burnouts in your valiant aiight!!

Joel...62's...long track...in the RS Turbo??....that is a pretty bloody good number!!
You didn't take a short cut somewhere did you? One M Lloyd in a class winning performance in a VERY quick WRX at a long track SES event not long ago was doing 66's....???

Man theres a lot of tog`n going on here, same car`s one with a massive engine power over the other and the power is a disadvantage !!...resulting in loss(surely thats not the real reason for a slower time, and if it is...the driver was poo).
Fark me theres this thing under your right foot that allows controlled use of power...its not lollie money, you don`t have to spend it all at once !

Tino, if that big GT doesn`t work out for you I have ~6.0ltrs of chevy V8 that is perfect for it....its exactly what I need for my project upgrade.

Don't try and get technical with rigidity of the chassis,Your fighting a losing battle .... Go back to your 150 hp rs and try and do a burnout or your cordia for that matter
