Default What oil do you use?

I'm just wondering what OIL everyone uses in their WRX (especially those with a GC8), I've just purchased an MY00 gc8 rex and I'm leaning towards using Penrite 10w-40 or Valvoline 10w-40 both Fully Synthetic .

I've been told that the oil currently in the car is Penrite 5w-40 Fully Synthetic. Will their be any harm in putting Penrite or Valvoline 10w-40 Fully Synthetic in my next service?

I've heard Castrol Edge is quite popular? Why is this so, and are there any brands that I should stay clear of?

Thanks guys
Ashby

Been covered heaps of time, try searching.

Generally people suggest a semi-synthetic 10W40 oil. Apparently subaru engines don't like fully synthetic and causes blow-by/glazed bores from prolonged use, and then there's those that argue against this.

Change intervals+filters are more important as long it's a 10W40 oil. Only oil I've heard from most people to stay away from and is from a well known brand is castrol magnatec.

I spent 10 minutes searching. I could not find a thread or a post that involved a discussion about best oil for a wrx or best quality oil etc.?

This is incorrect, after the first service, eg, the run in period, Subaru recommend only fully synthetic oil in the turbo cars.
In fact, the new FB series engines can only run on fully synthetic oil or severe engine damage may result.
Genuine Subaru synthetic oil is repackaged Castrol Edge 5w-30.
Its all I use.
