This is wrong too, sorry dude but you've been misinformed.
Genuine Subaru mineral oil is repackaged Magnatec 10w-30

I always service my car at City subaru and they have always used 10w 40. Not sure on brand but mobil is what I recall.

I was a bit unsure at first given the manual states 5w 30 but after a bit of research was quite thankful.

I put in penrite full synthetic 10-70 in mine on the weekend.
Only reason i went for that was because its seeing regular trackwork now.

10-70? damn that's thick! out of curiosity, have you noticed a performance change with the thicker oil?

I use genuine mercedes fully synthetic 5w40 as I get it for cost and it's damn good quality. Haven't been told anything against using it so hopefully it doesn't cause any problems

Not a GC8, but when I use to get my car serviced at RMS they used Motul Turbolite 4100 10W40 and that was fine for a DD.

For the last 3 years I've been taking the car out on the track a bit more and been servicing it myself, using Motul 300V Chrono 10W40. 300V is a bit expensive, but I still save money doing the work myself and also it smells nice for some reason.

look here and here, this noob red dragon has asked this question before:

Genuine Oils: http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/general-...ngine-oil.html

5w30 or 10w40: http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/general-...w30-10w40.html

I used to use castrol edge 5w30, it was a great oil. then motul turbo light, but apparently its velocity is 8w when it says 10w or something. it was good but is semi sinthetic and the price is more dear. Then i went to mobil 1 10w40 semi synthetic because of the 10w protection on start up. i know on my discussion people have said 5w is fine ect, but also it was a price factor and what i use the car for, a daily driver not a daily racer. i am hoping that maybe mao from evo r could bring in a 10w40 fully or semi synthetic from cusco as i would like to try it.

if the funds allowed it, royal purpal or motul 10w40 or something from redline would be in my car

i was considering using castrol edge 10w60 but not sure if its too thick? it states on the box that it is designed for the older turbo cars... anyone used this oil and their experiences please?

The cusco oil from Mao.
Only done a couple hundred kms on it and seems prety decent.
I came from mobil 1 so the cusco matches the performance feel so far.
