The Spec C still has ABS from factory, maybe they deleted it for weight or simplicity? I left mine in and I'm happy with the way it works in my car. Chris are you using the homologated dual circuit hydraulic handbrake? And/or a booster delete?

Tim, I'm not keen on airbags. Firstly I would argue that they are of much reduced value when using a properly adjusted 5/6 point harness. Secondly, they are surprsingly heavy. Also they can impede a rescue and I prefer a suede grip wheel on suede gloves.

No incar pics from the camera car, not our job, too many other distractions going on.

How hard? In that video it wasn't difficult to keep up. The car was a challenge category so he's limited to 130km/h so easy enough when I'm unrestricted. Keeping up with Dean Herridge was close to all I had to give on good road tyres. Bear in mind I had been practicing all day and he was on his first and only run. Neither of us had competent navigators or notes. As long as I have this gig I'll probably not compete in QTW, instead now that I know the car has good potential I'm thinking of tackling some other rallies in it.

Chris, not sure if you've seen them but Nic Beer via rallywa on FB has a great sequence of your flip. It may help to work out what went wrong?

Re: abs. In tarmac rallying I think it would be better to have it. As every stage and every corner is different its very hard to judge that exact limit of grip available; you want that extra bit of security to a. not send you sliding off the road because you've over cooked it and are now understeering/four wheel sliding and b. destroying (flat spotting) one of your limited number of allowed tyres.

There is a reason that TMR retro fitted ABS to the EVO 9 RS's that they ran in years go by.

Give me the weight penalty for having the abs module and pumps onboard!

Circuit, different story; get rid of abs!!

Chris's car does not have ABS + the brake booster has been removed to accomodate the cage. It also doesn't have a bias adjuster....an adjuster may be useful (as I have found).

I agree that ABS isn't a bad thing to have (some personal experience here!)....obviously the purists like Herridges Jnr and Snr wouldn't have it -they have a gravel background, where ABS isn't even a consideration. Would I have ABS is given the choice...I think yes...old dogs and new tricks are a difficult combo.

I haven't seen the in car of the incident but having seen the bit of road I could imagine that weight on the nose under braking + adverse camber + road curve could easily have contributed to the care getting unstable....it was just bad luck that there happened to be a kerb just in the wrong place (or kerb in the right place and car in the wrong place)...apparently Simon G ran straight on and into the scrub on that corner and Franz was about a metre onto the gravel on the exit, so it's a tricky bit of road.

Note to Chris - the carbon bits are legal but check quality and weight...note the Seibon bits on Iddles' car...top quality and very lightweight...and expensive, but you have a $100K car, so don't compromise on quality (saying that the bits you can get in China may be good quality). The other thing to cosider is what happens to carbon doors in an accident...ie sharp bits of carbon shards flying everywhere.

ABS was standard on my Spec C. It was taken out based on assumptions from MMS. I did ask how hard it would be to put it back in before the race - but it was too hard. I think it's a better feature to have, as it is a safety feature. If you were rallying on dirt, I would say that it should be deleted.
Franz - it wasn't a "fuse" job.

Just an FYI, I deliberately run into the gravel there because I know I can. I have in my notes that its off camber and that its also tighter than a 90 degree corner. I need to make the corner as big as I can as I don't have the straight line speed others do.

First run through I only ran a wheel or two wide as I didn't know whether they would have a corner cutting bollard there or not; second time through I knew they didn't so let it run wide. I did the same when I did Targa West in 2009.
