In my experience a TMIC in cold ambient conditions is awesome, minimal lag and not too bad intercooling efficiency but the words "cold ambient conditions" are the operative words here.

As soon as the outside air heats up efficiency starts to drop away rapidly and then the engine once hot will begin to transfer heat to the TMIC because as we know hot air rises and with the TMIC sitting right on top of the engine and right next to the turbo it doesn't take too many red traffic lights for the TMIC to turn itself into an "interheater".

This is why a waterspray system has a fairly decent effect on a TMIC but on an FMIC which is usually at least twice the size of a TMIC and located in a far better location with virtually no heat soak well I think any gains to be had from a waterspray would be largely psychological.

On a side note, Fred/John/Blaise/others, where do Mitsu place the nozzles for said intercooler on the 'racy lancers'?

Brent.

Pretty sure waterspray is best for TMIC's, specially when you've been heatsoaking them for a few minutes. I've got mine so that it comes on only when boost is at or over 14pound.

Wouldn't harm on a FMIC though, but not as useful as what it would be on a TMIC. The whole point of a FMIC is to avoid that heatsoak from the motor so you wouldn't get the result margin compared to a TMIC.

For FMIC spray, you kinda wanna be spraying upwards so the air then disperses it into the FMIC core. You don't want to be spraying directly into it as it will only mist a tiny part of it and would be next to useless.

Mine doesn't have intercooler spray... Only GSR X's get them.

don't forget you'll need some sort of valve to stop the water pissing out of the nizzle as it will be lower than the res, iirc this part of the discussion is where fmic spray system falls on its arse

fuck spraying the front of your engine with water too LOL messy messy

Water/methanol injection would reap more noticeable gains if the quest for bigger power is on the list of priorities.

I bought a pair of the genuine STI intercooler spray nozzles at $45 each from MRT, as everyone says they give the best spray pattern and atomisation blah blah. after spraying water through them I would suggest that 50c retic nozzles from bunnings would probably work just as well.

Pretty much - when you go from TM to FM then back to TM you realise how fucked up it really is.

As for the X water spray location - ummmm, I think it sprays upwards??? Need to have a closer look...

QFT

Actually best ones I found were the $3 fog/mist spray jets which I picked up from the reticulation place in Morley next to Autopro and Repco. They produce an ultra-fine fog of water that doesn't tend to bead as easily as the spray jets do.

After buying 2 of the genuine STI nozzles for ~$40 each and a genuine I/C waterspray switch for ~$70 from Subaru in Osborne Park it left me feeling I was somehow raped without the sex
