Find where the drive shaft inserts into the rear diff and gearbox. Try to pull on the inner CV to see if will slide out freely. It should be clipped firmly into place. If not, the driveshaft must have popped out of the clip grooves and you may have munched a spline.

Ahh... I see.. If thats the case, spline = diff part? If so, can anyone tell me what diff is standard in a WRX? I know apparently people call my car the slug due to having the slowest gearing ratio so would replacing this change that?

Usually when a spline is misaligned and ruined, its the driveshaft side that gets destroyed first. Its made of a softer metal.

So if you have munched a spline, replace the driveshaft and clip and you are usually good to go. No dissassembly of the diff/gearbox.

Your My01 WRX has the 3.9 ratio gearbox. Yes, pretty tall ratios as standard. If you ever decide to upgrade... 6 speed or 4.44 ratio 5 speed would be your best bet.

Hahaha! 600hp! I wish. Its an MY01 Bugeye Stocker with a JDM 2.0 Forester STI engine, gearbox/clutch/suspension done less then 8000kms since it was replaced.

I was thinking it could have been wheelspin, but no squeels or smoke =( Hence why i assumed the clutch had slipped. Someone said take it on the freeway and plant it in 5th and if car remains constant but revs raise its slipping, unfortunatly soon as i click 5th my check engine light comes on due to some phantom exhaust heat sens problem.
