Too much of pain in the ass .. I hardly ever double clutch. As above, if you have synchro's, you don't need to.

Only double shift when going from second to first at a speed that i'm not sure if it will pop in .. They are always nervous moments. I'm not a fan of the rule 'if you can't find it, grind it'.

I give the throttle a blip on the downshift to make a smooth transition into the lower gear quite often, but other than that ..

Actually your spot on. I have no idea why you'd do it on a gearbox with synchro's.

Rev matching, or heal and toe, on downshift though, thats another matter. Is that what you mean Jason?

I guess this question can be answered by "Do whatever you feel comfortable with"

If you strip it back to the basics your idea goal is to not unbalance the car on the downshift. If you think that by "blipping" the throttle just before you let the clutch out works for you, keep doing it.

I personally do not do it. I brake in a straight line keeping it in that gear until the very last moment. JUST before I start to lift pressure off the brake pedal (just before) I will select the gear that I need for the corner. This way my road speed is at its lowest and if I make a little boo boo it should not have too much affect on the cars balance.

My method may not work for everyone, I am in a street car with synchros, standard box and twin plate clutch.

^^^ So what if your in 5th and your slowing down to a 2nd gear corner?? The engine would not be too happy with you unless you have the clutch in the whole time...

And the balance would not be that fantastic doing it that way IMO. The Idea of having the car in the correct gear for its speed meand if for whatever reason you need to accelerate or change direction suddenly the balance of the car is ALWAYS there, not just for the corner your aiming for.

If you get your revs right, you can go from 5th to 2nd smoothly while maintaining a good balance.

agree but that dosnt change the fact the car is not balanced the rest of the time.
