I am seriously contemplating replaced the wastegate actuator and BCS, but it is alot of cash to sink if it doesn't resolve the issue.

I wonder if the clicking noise is causing any damage?
No - put on hoist.

If your worried about damage then see one of the resident Subaru experts.

You can also jack the front of the car up, put it on stands and check. You will need to remove the plastic cover. I checked mine and couldn't find and issues, checked all bolts and tapped around for ages....

You need to put a load on the engine to make the noise happen. Ive tried having the car revved with the heat shield off to watch the wastegate actuator for movement but no deal. I have also read somewhere that the noise was exhasut leaking from around the wastegate shaft in the turbo houseing. the guy changed the houseing and the noise stopped. Take your heatshield off and look to see if their is any soot under it at all.

I had the heat shield off yesterday and i couldn't see any soot buildup.

I have just had my mate around, and holding it between 1.5k and 2k revs there is a pretty loud slapping, metallic noise coming from the rear half of the engine. It definitely doesn't sound to nice

I'm starting to think I might have to bite the bullet and get it put on a flatbed and taken to either Mao or someone like that.

Just went though and got some, you can start hearing it at around 20 seconds.

It kind of sounds like a vibration but I'm not to sure...

It was recorded from the little windscreen wiper shelf in the middle.

That does not sound good (stating the obvious).
Time for the experts.
