PMH , using Koni's requires the inserts to be fitted into standard strut housings by cutting and drilling so really this is a 6 to 7 hour job plus wheel alignment. $2000 is probably a fair price plus...

Take it to someone that knows wrx's. It should have a 3.9 front and a 3.54 rear with 1.1:1 transfer gears. Just turning the wheels in the air won't give a true indication of drive between the front...

My advice is to get the guys at RMS to have a look, they seem to know of a common problem with these that sounds like a big end knock but is actually something else that costs far far less to fix....

Hmmm,sorry to stuff your night but i heard recently PPG stopped making gear kits for the early wrx's like 97 - 98 and only do them to fit the 99 onwards box.
I believe RMS just fitted the last one...
