I thought so too with the windscreen, yet on my policy it says $660 excess.

My mate who had a nose-to-tail involving his Statesman and a 4WD had to pay $1k excessed before his insurance even considered the claim. May have been a case where it was under his parent's name though.

If someone crashes into you and the are at fault you would not pay an excess anyway?

Yeah but I live in rockingham and about 75% of the drivers are usually unlicenced or driving unregistered cars.

I suggest you check your policy disclosure statement
I'm with Kym here.

I work for RAC, Not in the Insurance side of things (IT here) But yes you can opt for $0 Basic Excess & your Premium will begin to go up. Age Excess you can't avoid

However with my policy:

Car: 2007 Subaru WRX (Pignose/hawkeye)
Agreed Value: $32,000
Cost: $828 ($69 month Staff Discount) $0 Basic Excess ; $250 Age Excess (23 here)
All mods covered & with any future ones I can just give my mate in Distribution a Call to Add them to my policy.

Going by my previous experience your insurance company will refund you your excess once they have conducted their investigations and have determined you aren't at fault. You still need to pay the excess in the first place.

My recent rear ender was different to this.
Was told that they would determine if I needed to pay an excess, only phone call I got was telling me that repairs had been authorised.

Walked away without paying a cent

Not true. Upon claim application as long as you provide the required details by your insurer they will waive the excess. I've not paid it my last 2 claims (not at fault)

Things must have changed in the last 10 years or so.
