Joe, you need a pair of MY99 or MY00 GC8 rear shafts. Alternately the inner CV's off any Post 98 WRX can be swapped onto your old shafts.
The shafts you need have the same shape on left and right...

I guess the rear half could be fully welded together (it will still fit in the car in one piece but it's awkward and requires the whole interior be stripped) then there would only be 4 removable...

Disregard the white lines on the belt, especially if it's a Dayco belt.
Rotate the engine backwards by enough that you can slowly bring the crank into position...
