As usual, Simon is always one step ahead.

Will let him share his little secret if he wants to.

Off topic as you have said the issue is sorted, but can you post up any information about what logging is available on the vipec (logging file size, channels etc) and how it compares to something like the motec logging / programs to view?

Hi Neil,

The motor does have just under 150K on it and I do know it will not be too long, before it gives in one form or another. Saying that it has only been modified in the last 12 months (I am referring to taking the VF35 turbo to 25lb with an exhaust and Verso here) and I have only put 6k on it since I purchased it. It still feels strong & I do not drive thrash the crap out of my call all the time.

I am hoping it will last at-least 6 months, while I get this stroker motor built. If it doesn't it doesn't. I have already written the STI motor off in my head and am expecting it not to last. I know I did this the wrong way round, in terms of I should have built the motor first then worked from there. But to be honest, I was kidding myself, that this build was going to stop at a bolt on turbo (generally speaking) and ECU. Saying that the turbo and ECU can be used in the next build, so I have not wasted money on them.

I have got a closed deck block I will be picking up on Friday. I will be building a 2.2 bottom end with this. I have priced up the majority of parts required and am ready to buy them (maybe you could give me some guidance on what I am intending to buy?). I will grab some cams from the states also and just freshen up my heads from the STI with a little bit of a port n polish. I also have a set of WRX heads if i need them from the same closed deck motor.

Hope you are well mate

Thanks again for the purge solenoid

150,000kms is nothing. Why do you think it will let go?

300,000kms or continual racing, sure budget it in.

Ok no worries, sorry I must have got my dates wrong. I have been away for a fair amount of time with work over the last 6 weeks. PM me or call when you get back mate and I will come and collect. Have a good holiday

Russ, it might not die, there again, if it does I already have a new, stronger motor to replace it with.

I guess the standard STI motor takes 16 - 18 lb of boost, it makes 206kw at the flywheel, so say around 200hp ATW. To me when you start pushing things up to 26 psi and make over 50% power than the car first came out with (I am not saying it cant take more in standard form) its only a matter of time before something lets go, due to the fact the engineers at Subaru possibly would not have accounted for aftermarket tweaking. But we will see I guess. I hope it doesn't and I can fit the new motor with the 207 bottom end all good still.

On the other hand my mate has a bug STI and has been through 2 motors. Motor leaned out the first time and put a hole in the piston and cant remember the reason the second time but its just come out of MMS with a fresh motor..... My point is you never know when something is going to break.

Just my thoughts,

Simon, Tony Knight @ Knight Racing Motors in South Australia would be one of the best people to be speakng to regarding the machining, final assembly of the 2.2. He currently does a great deal of the machining for the top engine builders in Australia. His work can be seen of the RS liberty forum & this site you will find further insight to his builds with photos.

I have been getting my machining done through him as he does CNC machining of rephasing of the 2.5 ltr oil holes in the non heat treated cranks also the heads.

IMO hold of purchasing anything other than a RS closed deck block before you talk to Tony directly.
